Conditions of hire

The Princess Theatre is managed by Aisle 6, and owned by Princess Theatre Church.

As the theatre is owned by a church, which has a standing in the community and an obligation to uphold Christian and family values, there are a number of conditions that the prospective hirer must be aware of and agree to.

Key conditions

The following are the key conditions to note before making the booking. These and other conditions will be in the booking contract we will send to you once you have made the booking. A breach of any of these terms will result in the loss of the hirer's security deposit.

Public Liability Insurance

The hirer is legally the promotor of their event and as such is responsible for their own "Public Liability Insurance". Simple public liability insurance can easily be found and we recommend Insurance Adviser Net's Brisbane-based broker. Their number is 07 3123 6919.

Behaviour and attire for non-catered public events

Strictly no drugs, alcohol or smoking. This rule applies to performers, promoters, and guests.

Intoxicated persons will not be admitted.

Dangerous or obnoxious behaviour is not allowed and will result in the person/s immediate removal from this venue.

No thongs (anyone) or steel capped boots (guests).

The venue owner, venue manager and/or promoter reserve the right to refuse admission to any person.

Catered events & alcohol

Only closed (ie private) catered functions may include alcohol. This requires the use of a reputable external caterer who holds an appropriate liquor licence.

The consumption of alcohol is only permitted within the function boundaries and for the duration of the agreed function period.

A per-head surcharge is applied - please see the Prices and options page for details.

18th and 21st birthday functions are not permitted.

Event content

No content or behaviour that fits the following categories is to be presented. If you are unsure of these content restrictions or if they apply to your event, please contact us.

  • Horror or supernatural themes
  • Coarse language
  • Nudity/sexual references/sex scenes
  • Violence

Music

Out of respect for our neighbours and due to the excessive numbers of noise-related complaints during certain shows, louder-style bands will not be booked at The Princess Theatre, nor any band which, in the venue or venue manager's opinion, may cause a nuisance to our neighbours.

Sound and sound levels

The venue’s policy on sound levels, in order to meet Brisbane City Council’s requirements, are:

  • Noise can only be made 8am-10pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-9pm Sundays. No noise can be made outside of these times.
  • Sound to be no greater than 98db(A) at the mix position at all times.
  • Sound to be no greater than 98db(A) in the middle of the backstage area at all times.
  • All backstage and auditorium Windows and Doors to be closed.
If the venue owner or venue manager believes that the noise from the theatre is causing a nuisance to the neighbours of the theatre, they can direct the event to cease generating noise.

Times

The building is to be vacated by 10:30pm. Later times need to be negotiated at the time of booking, and extra fees will be applicable. Please be packed to allow closure at the agreed time – later than agreed departures will incur an overrun fee.

Technical

Production equipment is provided. None of the theatre’s own production equipment, cabling or patching is to be used or tampered with

There are to be no smoke machines, hazers, foggers, or the like used in the theatre without prior arrangement with the Venue Manager – additional fees may apply.

Security

High-risk events must hire a professional security company specified by the venue (organised at the time of booking).

Security is recommended for other events but is not mandatory.

Paintwork, curtains & building fabric

It is important that the theatre is kept looking great.  To avoid damage to the building:

  • Nothing is to be taped or otherwise attached to the walls.
  • Nothing is to be taped or otherwise attached to the floors (including but not limited to the stage or backstage floors).
  • Nothing is to be taped or otherwise attached to the curtains.
  • Nothing else is to be done that may damage the paintwork, curtains or building fabric.

Cleaning

The venue must be brought back the level of cleanliness it was on opening – including inside and outside (entire front footpath of the property and its verandas). The theatre’s two immediate neighbours footpaths must also be cleaned, including the garden bed.

Cleaning of the theatre is to be carried out by Eatons Cleaning, which is at the expense of the hirer.

Kitchen

For public events and some private events, the kitchen area is used by the Venue for the purpose of running a canteen and is out of bounds to the hirer. No food or drink is allowed to be brought onto the premises by the hirer or their guests unless prior arrangements have been made.

Parking

There is no on-site parking for the theatre. Parking is restricted to street parking and local pay-parking. There is to be no parking or loading/unloading in:

  • The driveway to the immediate left of the theatre
  • The Hotel Diana complex
  • The Clarence Hotel car park

as these properties do not belong to the theatre.

Secure undercover parking is available at Princess Parking for a small fee.

Cancelations

A notice of cancelation of any booked event must be made in writing to the following email address:
